How Grandma Lucy’s Gives Back: March Donation Recap
Since the start of Grandma Lucy’s in 1999, it has been our passion to provide pets with the healthiest lives possible. That’s why we started Project Pet RAK, which is short for Random Acts of Kindness. Through our charitable arm, we partner with 501(c)(3) organizations that have a passion for helping service dogs, therapy dogs, and dogs in need.
In the month of March, we are proud to report that we donated almost 4,000 meals to pets in need in our community. Read about these incredible organizations below!
Families Forward: Supporting Families and Pets in Crisis
Families Forward’s mission is to prevent and end family homelessness by providing access to housing and resources that create lasting stability. Some of the wonderful services they provide include housing programs, rent and utility assistance, mental health counseling, medical resources, and a new Community Market food bank where families in need can come to “shop” for food and other crucial supplies, including food for their pets.
When families are in crisis, their pets are in crisis too. By providing pet meal donations to the food bank, we help keep families and pets together. This month, we donated 1,728 meals for pets of families facing homelessness!
“We recently opened our Community Market (a client choice/grocery store style model) and when I was working the check out the first couple of weeks I had a few clients that took the Grandma Lucy’s dog food. So of course, I asked if they had a dog/what kind, and they immediately smiled and pulled out photos of their dogs and shared all about them ❤ It was so fun and special to share that moment with them and reinforces that the families utilizing our services have pets and need food for them too! Thank you for your continued dedication to our mission, it’s making a difference!”

Orange County Animal Allies: Supporting Animals, Serving the Community
OC Animal Allies is a non-profit organization whose programs are aimed at saving the lives of animals by providing community education, emergency resources and referral services to Orange County community residents. Their programs include their PAWS therapy dogs program, financial relief for low-income pet parents, and their No Empty Bowls initiative, which works to stock food pantries throughout the county with pet food and supplies.
As an official food sponsor for OCAA, we are proud to provide monthly donations of our 3 Bears dog food. In the month of March, we donated 2,251 meals for pets that will go right into the community to support low-income pet owners in Orange County!
Firefly Meadows Service Dogs: training the next generation of assistance dogs
We are thrilled to announce that are now official food sponsors of Firefly Meadow Service Dogs, a 501(C)(3) nonprofit dedicated to training therapy and service dogs for psychiatric, medical, mobility and autism assistance.
Did you know that raising, training, and preparing a service dog for their person can cost anywhere from $25,000 to $50,000? Many recipients must fundraise on their own to cover these expenses. By providing monthly food shipments to Firefly Meadows, we’re helping reduce that burden and supporting an organization dedicated to connecting these vital companions with those who need them most. In March alone, we shipped 640 pounds of food to their training and breeding facility to support their incredible work.
How you can help support service and therapy dogs, and pets in need
A portion of every bag of our 3 Bears Dog Food sold goes to support Project Pet RAK, and the organizations we partner with. You can also help by donating direction to Families Forward here, or to Orange County Animal Allies here. Firefly Meadows Service Dogs provides a variety of ways to help, from sponsoring a puppy, to volunteering, or by giving a financial contribution.
Thank you for helping us support and celebrate the extraordinary bond between animals and humans every day.
